It's even harder to keep your lips moist when the weather is colder. When your lips are dry and hard, there is something you can do to make your lips beautiful again. . If you take good care of your lips, they will soon be kissable. Here are some ideas for a start.

1. Exfoliate. Always be sure to exfoliate your lips twice a week. You can apply a sugar and honey scrub, with a warm washcloth in the shower, or use a toothbrush. This will remove dead skin and make your lips smoother. To moisturize those newly soft lips, be sure to put a thick cover of lip balm on as soon as you finish exfoliating.

2. Apply lip balm. Chapstick or lip balm frequently, even under your lipstick or lip gloss. You can protect yourself from any chemicals from your lip gloss however you may feel that it is unnecessary to under lip gloss. Having kissable lips requires the use of lip balm, regardless of how hydrated and healthy they are. In the daytime, you should find one with SPF, to protect your lips from the UV rays of the sun. Keep in mind that it is even possible for your lips to get sunburned.

3. Avoid licking your lips too often. Sometimes people will lick their lips subconsciously as a reaction to being nervous, or they may simply lick them as a way to alleviate chapped lips. If you break the habit of licking your chapped lips, they will not get as badly chapped.

4. Stay away from bad weather. In all weather conditions rain, wind or shine your lips can easily get chapped. You should avoid the weather if possible, even if you are using lip balm as protection. Placing a scarf over your face is great protection if you need to venture out. Again, it is important that you protect your lips with balm, especially if you will be in windy weather.

5. Drinking enough water is essential. Keep lips hydrated with plenty of water, dehydrated lips may crack. This is sound advice for maintaining the physical good health to your whole body too.

6. Lip color. By putting on a high quality lipstick or gloss you can add protection. You must avoid using inexpensive off-brands sold at drug stores, they may have chemicals that could cause damage to your lips. You can avoid chemicals by choosing all natural products. Lip color, regardless of the hue, can help your lips to look more beautiful.

It's important if you want them to be in top shape, even though this may seem like a lot of care for your lips. You will have kissable and beautiful lips in no time when you follow these steps.

Six "Sexy Lips" Tips

Full, soft, inviting lips. Want them? We all do, and now we all can have them. Here's the kiss and tell on luscious lips.

#1 Hands off. Let's start simple, with a line you may have heard in your youth. Mom always told you and so will we - stop biting and licking your lips. It smears your color and irritates your lips. Keep utensils and pens away from your lips. It'll keep your pucker pretty and keep lipstick off your teeth.

#2 Hydrate yourself inside and out. Water, water, everywhere. Be sure to drink your share. You know you need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Here's another reason to do it. Water is vital to tissue health.

#3 Protect your lips from wind and sun damage. Always wear lip balm with a SPF of 15 or higher. Always. And, don't forget your lip balm. It moisturizes your lips and serves as a base for your lip color. Wear it in place of lip color on no make-up days. Worn under your lipstick, it'll even help extend the life of your color.

#4 Lip liner can be a lifesaver. Lip liner serves two main purposes. It solves size and shape problems. It reins in your color. Thin lips? Following the lip line, outline your natural lip shape slightly beyond the edge of your lip. Thick lips? Lucky you. If you think they're too thick (is there really such a thing?), try the opposite. Following your lip line, outline your natural lip shape just inside the edge of your lip.

Lining your lips helps keep your lip color from seeping out to the skin around your mouth. So, if your lipstick seems to migrate, then lip liner can keep it in place. One caveat to using lip liner: Your lip liner should not actually be visible once your lipstick is applied. So, choose your lip liner carefully. If the world sees an outline around your mouth, you're using the wrong liner.

#5 Lip color sends a message. The color you choose says something about how you view yourself and how you want others to view you. What does your favorite lip color say?

Pale pink: pretty and sweet.

Red: chic or daring.

Coral: fiery and adventurous.

Brown tones: classic and timeless.

In fact, browns are a universally great choice. Every mouth can wear brown.

Top Beauty Tips For Brides and Models - Flawless Lips

Being an esthetician, makeup artist, former assistant to a cosmetic surgeon, and a self-proclaimed "beauty junky" have all proven to be surprisingly helpful in my career as a fitness trainer and nutritionist. The majority of my clients have, at one point or another, asked for beauty tips that I've luckily been able to provide. And while I do get skin care, makeup, and cosmetic treatment questions from people with varying fitness goals, no one has more beauty questions than the ladies from two specific groups of my clientele: Those getting married, and those preparing for photo shoots.

After answering countless questions asked by my brides and models in regards to everything from breakouts, enlarged pores, and ashy skin, to Botox and lip plumpers, and on to longest lasting foundations, waterproof concealers, and preventing mascara smudges, I've noticed quite a few trends.

Since so many of you have similar concerns, I've decided to compile these questions into a series of articles outlining the basics of what you need to know to look amazing on your special day.

We all want full, sexy lips - even with minimal makeup, great skin and a perfect mouth can be enough to make for a spectacular look (yes, even on camera!). Whether you're blessed with near-flawless lips or not, there are steps we can all take to perfect our pouts. Let's take a look at a few of these now.

* How do I deal with dry lips? My chapped lips are always peeling, help!

No sweat here, just exfoliate your lips! You can use a sugar-based scrub, or even use your toothbrush in a pinch. To make your own sugar scrub, add a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to 1/4 teaspoon of vaseline, and scrub your lips in a circular motion.

Don't feel like making a scrub? Just apply an emollient lotion (like vaseline) to your lips, run hot water over your toothbrush to warm it up and soften the bristles, and gently scrub your lips in a circular motion to take off all those flakes.

Once you've done that, apply your favorite balm (my pick: Nivea SOS or Q10 lip treatment), let absorb slightly, and begin applying your lip makeup.

* How can I make my thin lips look full and sexy?

You have a few options here, as well. If you're looking for a long-lasting solution and aren't afraid of needles, you can look into injectable lip fillers.

There are several different types, the most popular being Juvederm and Restylane (though there are many others, including Perlane, Hylaform, Sculptra, and so on). Lip fillers can cost anywhere from $300 to $1,000 dollars, depending on the type used, the amount needed, and your geographical location.

If you'd rather not go the injectables route, certain makeup techniques can have a similar effect!

The first thing you'll want to do, is line right over the ridge of your lips and through your entire lip surface rather than just along the outline of your lips, inside the ridge. Over the pencil, you'll apply the lipstick, and over your lipstick, add gloss - but not everywhere! You'll want to place a bit of it strategically, right in the middle of your bottom lip.

You'll then want to add a slight bit of light-reflecting shimmery color to your cupid's bow (over the top, center of your lips). A pale pink shadow will work well here. The reflecting light will result in your entire pout appearing much fuller and sexier than you ever thought possible - and all, needle-free!

* Should I match my lipstick color to my outfit or gown? How do I color match the right way?

Unless you're doing an artsy shoot, you'll want a lip color that'll match your coloring, not your outfit. It's never a good idea to match your outfit without paying any mind to your skin tone and hair color - you're not trying to make your outfit look good; your goal is to make yourself look good!

Trendy colors are generally a no-no at weddings and other formal, heavily photographed events, because you don't want to look through your photos twenty years from now and be embarrassed of the bright pink lipstick and bright blue eye shadow you wore. Neutral shades that deepen the natural hue of your lip color are the best bet here, and they'll last longer with fewer touch ups, to boot!

* How do I make the "glossy lips" look last?

This is all about using the right product. There are thousands of lip glosses out there, my personal favorites all happen to be super long lasting ones. Be forewarned, many of the ones that have the ability to last through the day are also quite sticky.

There are different degrees of shine, as well. The more demure brides - or those of you after a more classic look - may opt for a less shiny and more subtle finish of a product like Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss or Lancome Juicy Tubes Smoothie gloss.

If you're after the full on vinyl look that'll last through the day, try Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect, Make Up For Ever Super Lip Gloss, Mac Lip Glass, or Yves Saint Laurent Gloss PUR.

* My naturally dark lips make it impossible for any lipstick to stay true to its color. Any ideas?

This one's simple: Just cover your natural lip color!

Some makeup artists suggest using foundation over the lips, though I personally dislike the idea because it's drying, never seems to blend well, and never lasts long on that skin. There are, however, many lipsticks that will completely conceal your lip color and will allow any lipstick applied over them to hold true to its shade. Some of my favorites for this are Scott Barnes Show Off, and MAC's Myth.

Your other option is to use a product especially formulated for this, like MAC's Lip Erase. You'll want to apply this product over balm, let it absorb for a few minutes, and proceed with lipstick application. The result? Perfect lips, the exact color of your lippie.

* How do I keep my lipstick from bleeding? How about smudging?

If your lipstick tends to bleed, my best tip would be to stay away from creamy lipsticks and glosses, opting for matte ones, instead. If you dislike the matte mouth look, you can always use that as a base color, set with a translucent powder, and go over the top with a clear gloss.

Preventing lipstick from smudging is actually done in a similar way: Apply your lipstick over your pencil (applied over the entire lip, not just the outline!), allow to set for a minute, and set with a setting powder. Once set, apply another coat of the lip color, using a brush to make sure it goes on as thinly and perfectly as possible, and then blot lightly to get rid of any excess.

Set with gloss of choice, and you're ready for your close up!

Dry Chapped Lips - Is Your Lip Balm Part of the Solution Or Part of the Problem?

There's probably no more delicate or widely used part of your body than your lips. And just as your skin is prone to dryness and even damage from exposure to the elements, so too are your lips.

In fact, your lips are a lot more sensitive than the rest of your skin because unlike your skin, which has the ability to hydrate and regulate moisture, your lips have no sebaceous glands or lipids (fats) to help them retain moisture.

There are many factors that can lead to dry, chapped, cracked or sore lips. Some of the more common include:

1. Overexposure to wind, sun, and hot or cold dry air
2. Obstructed breathing that results from chronic congestion due to colds, flu, and allergies, forcing you to breathe through your mouth rather than your nose
3. A habit of frequently licking the lips

Some of these factors are simply unavoidable -- especially during the winter months, or for folks living in arid desert climates. So what can you do to keep your lips soft, supple and eminently kissable even under these types of conditions?

Well the first and most obvious solution is to use a lip care product that helps lips retain moisture and elasticity. This sounds deceptively simple. There is no shortage of lip products out there that claim to do the job, but caveat emptor (buyer beware)! If you don't know what's in your lip balm or lip care product or how it actually works, you could be adding to the problem rather than solving it! One type of ingredient could be cancelling out the effect of another --radically decreasing its efficacy.

Emollients vs. Humectants: Sealing vs. Drawing Moisture In

The same principle applies to your lips as to the rest of your skin: use products made with ingredients that impart lasting benefits by hydrating and improving your skin's ability to retain moisture. You need a good balance of emollients (softeners) and humectants (moisturizers that attract and hold water to the skin).

There are a wide variety of emollient ingredients, but the ones found in petroleum-based skin and lip products work via "occlusion" which means the act of closing off. They are spread onto the skin to slow or prevent moisture evaporation and are made up of oils and waxes that can't be penetrated by water.

Rather than assisting or improving your skin's ability to draw and retain moisture, petroleum products claim to achieve the desired result by "sealing in" whatever moisture may already be present. They coat, soothe, and soften until they wear off (or in the case of lip balm, are licked off) and then must be re-applied to continue working. Even worse, when substances like mineral oil get under the top layer of the skin they create an impenetrable barrier leading to perpetually chapped lips. There is no lasting benefit from using this type of lip product --only a lifetime of guaranteed replenishment sales for the manufacturers!

Waxes: Is Less More?

Don't be fooled into thinking that lip balms with a lot of wax are better for your lips. Although waxes can act as emollients, their purpose in your lip balm is more functional than beneficial. Waxes are added primarily for texture and to solidify or emulsify the other ingredients. A larger proportion of wax is often needed simply to stiffen the product so it can be dispensed in a push-up tube --a form preferred by many people.

Whatever form you choose, make sure your lip balm is made with natural waxes like beeswax or carnauba wax and not petrolatum or you exacerbate the problems of occlusion.

Eat What You Wear or Wear What You Eat!

There's another good reason why you should strictly avoid petroleum-based lip products.
When we lick our lips, eat, and drink while wearing lipstick or lip products, or kiss someone who is wearing a lip product, we can ingest some of the product's ingredients. By one estimate, women in the United States ingest up to 4 pounds of lipstick a year! If you are a habitual lip balm user, imagine how much product you are consuming internally. Licking your lips can increase their dryness and lead to chapping, but licking the stuff that's on your lips can ultimately lead to even more unpleasant outcomes.

Keep your lips in tip-top shape year-round by sticking to lip products made with only the best natural ingredients. If it's not safe to ingest then it's probably not safe to put on your skin either.

Big, beautiful lips make every woman happy. With their tempting allure, and rich, sexy colors, the lips in magazines seem to get all the attention. If you have a modeling career you can liven up your style, and add a splash of color by choosing the proper lipstick color.

When you are doing your model shoot, the shape and color of your lips are very important in making your photos beautiful. Always take several different colors of lipstick with you so you can change your color to go with your different outfits.

Lip Liner for Your Lips

Whether you would like your lips to be full or thin, you can create your lip's shape by using lip liner. First, you should always match your liner to the color of your lipstick.

When applying your lipliner, always start at the center of your upper lip and go to the extreme outer corner.

If you have really thin lips, you can make them look larger by slightly overlining, and never use lipstick that is a dark color, because this will make your lips look thinner.

Choosing your Lipstick Color

For your photo shoot, make sure your lipstick is a solid color and about one shade darker than you would normally wear. This will help in making your lips stand out and allow you to portray that sexy look.

Also, when selecting your lipstick color, it's important to remember the relationship of lipstick to skin tone. The shade you choose should have the same color saturation as your skin. If your skin tone is deep, you can wear a deep shade of lipstick and look great. For example, an African American beauty model can wear deep red lipstick colors, like crimson, because it compliments her skin tone.

Cherry or fire engine red may not be flattering, with too much contrast. If you skin is medium tone, you would look great in all shades of red. If your skin tone is pale, beige tones and pinks are for you.

So here we go Makeup Tips Part 2 or...
"How to apply eye make without looking like you've gone 3 rounds with Joe Frazier"

In other words don't overdo it. Subtle is the word here!

Eyeshadow - There's a rainbow of colours now available, unlike when I grew up, green and blue were almost all that we could get (boring!) So have fun and experiment, but bear a few tips in mind.

Keep bright colours for evening use only.

Don't use frosted, glitter or metallic shadows if you're over about 25! You'll accentuate any fine lines. There's also a theory that the small glitter particles can pass through the fine eyelid membranes and lodge in the eye. (I don't know for sure if this is true, but it's enough to make your eyes water!)

Use dark colours to shrink and light colours for emphasis.

Blend blend blend blend! between colours. Use a brush or fingers (gently does it)

Use a lighter colour on the inner edge of eyes to "open" and darker colours on the outer edge for a dramatic look.

It's best to use no more than 2 colours at a time (unless you're super clever) Make sure to use the same colour tone. Hot colours are bronze, taupe and gold. Sheer colours will look more natural.

*Special tip* - Don't use an eye shadow that's the same colour as your eyes. Contrast will bring our your eye colour better. For example if your eyes are blue use a brown or taupe shade. Brown eyes look fabulous with most colours - except brown.

Mascara - If you only do one thing then make it mascara! It has the most impact of all make up.

Start at the root of the lashes and move up. Make sure you include the tiny lashes at the inner corners.

Put an extra coat on the outer corners too. This will make your eyes look "larger".

Wipe brush with a tissue to remove any "blobs".

Don't use a lash comb afterwards, instead use a clean wand (wash your old one and use that)

If adding a second coat, do it before the first one dries.

Mascara can "go off" quickly. Replace every 4 months to avoid eye infections.

Don't overdo it. Too much will stick your lashes together and look unnatural.

To widen eyes, use an eyelash curler - before applying mascara.

If your eyelashes are very sparse, try false lashes, these can look great if applied properly!

*Special tip* - If you have small eyes, don't use mascara on your bottom lashes. This can make your eyes appear smaller.

Eyebrows - Pluck only under your brows to create a good shape. If your brows tend to meet in the middle then you can pluck here too, but be careful. A beautician can wax this area for you the first time so you can maintain it yourself in future.

If you have sparse or light eyebrows use a pencil one shade darker than your brows, but no darker than your hair colour. Blondes are best using a light brown pencil.

If your brows already look good, try adding some shine with a slick of Vaseline or sheer lip gloss.

Use a brush to blend pencil at all times.

*Special tip* - If your eyes are too close together, start your brows more toward the middle of the eye. Try this with a pencil first. Don't pluck before you're sure it suits you!

Lipstick - The best thing I can tell you about lipstick is to use a lip brush. Yes it takes a little longer to apply, but you'll get an even application of colour and stay within the lip line.

Make sure your lips aren't dry or flaky, use Vaseline or moisturizer before applying lipstick.

If your lips are too thin, draw a line just slightly outside your normal lip line with a lip liner pencil (careful!)

If you want your lips to be the focal point of your face, use a strong colour and use less eye make-up.

For lasting colour that doesn't come off on your coffee cup (or his cheek!), blot lips and re apply. Blot again.

Use a gloss over your lippie for impact!

Practice makes perfect when applying make up. If you do it often enough, you'll be able to apply make-up in the dark, without a mirror and with both hands tied behind your back (Just joking but you know what I mean!)

Who Invented Lip Gloss?

Max Factor was the original creator of lip gloss back in 1930 when he was searching for a way to make actresses in the film industry have shiny, glossy lips while on camera. One of the first actresses to wear his lip gloss was Lillian Gish in 1928. Max Factor had already invented the first makeup for motion pictures in 1914, pan-cake makeup in 1937, cover-up makeup in 1954, and to the delight of women everywhere, in 1971 he created the world's first waterproof makeup. He even invented and coined the word "makeup."

Before Max Factor arrived on the scene, the theatrical industry used greasepaint which had to be applied in a stick form. However, the paint couldn't be applied thinly enough for film and the colors were completely unsuitable. Max created a thin, cream form of the greasepaint with 12 varying shades, and packaged it first in a jar and then in collapsible sanitary tubes. His new product quickly became the most popular makeup in the film industry in that time period.

The first product Max Factor created for commercial distribution was called X-Rated and was successfully debuted in 1932. This product promised to make women's lips glossy with a subtle shine. Lip gloss offered an alternative to heavy lipstick, providing a more natural look that was lightweight, clear and subtle. The formula for X-Rated was successfully continued until 2003 when Proctor and Gamble bought the Max Factor line of makeup and discontinued the famous X-Rated gloss.

There are countless brands available on the market today that compare to the original Max Factor brand and they come in either a soft sold or liquid format. Lip gloss can be clear, colored, glittery, frosted, metallic, translucent, flavored, and water resistant. It can come in tubes with applicators, squeeze tubes with the applicator built in, small round metal containers, or boxes with lip brushes. It can contain sunscreen, moisturizer, antioxidants, and 'plumpers' to make the lips temporarily appear larger. With all the variety available today, it would be hard to imagine a world without lip gloss!!

Ingredients:

• ¼ cup of beeswax or petroleum jelly
• 2 tbsp sunflower oil or vegetable oil
• Flavoring or scent (non-toxic)
• Coloring (food coloring or lipstick)
• Small container or plastic tube

Instructions:

• Put the ¼ cup of beeswax in a pot and add the oil.
• Stir the wax and oil together until they melt together.
• Microwave for 1 minute, remove, and add flavorings and color.
• Pour the mixture into your small container or tube and let it cool.
• Store in a cool spot and use within a couple days.

Vertical Lip Lines - Should You Be Concerned?

Typical lip balms and glosses, moisturizing sticks whether colored or clear, and lotions, creams and butters, contain waxes, wax derivatives, petroleum or other barrier ingredients that helps seal moisture into, but also to an extent out of the lip surface. This is not a perfect seal of course, but it does slow moisture loss, and changes the lips feel on the surface. After the nutritive portion of the product is fully absorbed, this "seal" leaves a soft smooth waxy coating on the lip surface. But this is not adding any additional moisture or nutrients to the lips at this point, and can actually prevent moisture from effectively penetrating the deeper lip tissues. That's what a moisturizer is formulated to do. Seal in the water within the tissues so it does not evaporate as quickly. However after moisture does evaporate, you cannot judge dryness by surface touch, because of the deceptive feel of the wax coating.

Long-term use of these types of products can be a contributor to chronic lip dehydration and poor health, because you are unable to "tell" by feel that lips are actually dehydrated, and in urgent need of moisture. Unhealthy lips are unable to regulate their own moisture balance correctly, and lose moisture rapidly from the deeper layers. Applying additional balm or coating products to the surface will exacerbate this cycle, because the barrier from previous layers, slows the absorption of moisture from repeated product coats, leaving lips in a state of continual dehydration.

This prolonged hydration deprivation, as I call it, causes the tissues beneath your lips to shrink. This shrinking causes a "drawstring effect" because it pulls the tissue to which it is attached, namely the tissues beneath your lips, downward. This pulling and "drawstring effect" is responsible for the lines on the lip surface. These vertical lines always precede the dreaded and feared lines and wrinkles above and around the lips. In fact in several instances, it's possible to trace one of these vertical lip lines right up and over the vermillion border (upper lip line) or down and over the bottom lip line. If these vertical lip lines are not immediately addressed, they will increase in quantity as well as in depth, and the manifestation of lines and wrinkles above, and possibly around the lips, will inevitably appear.

1. Lip Stains are available in a variety of colors, although not as common as the everyday lipstick colors. They usually come packaged in a plastic squeezable tube, so it's easy to control the amount you want to distribute. I recommend applying with a lip brush for more precision. The purpose of lip stains can be two-fold because they are also widely used as blush colors for the cheeks. If you're interested in using them as blush colors, just squeeze a small amount onto the back of your hand and apply using a foundation (or a large concealer) brush. Please note that the product dries quickly, so when you apply the color onto your cheeks blend as soon as possible.

2. Long-wearing lip colors are rising in popularity, so a wider range of colors are becoming available. They provide medium to full coverage, so there's no need to feel as though you have to reapply to achieve a fresh look. Use a lip brush to apply the color and make sure you distribute evenly. I highly recommend it if you have a busy lifestyle, and don't want to think about reapplying your lip color throughout the day. Matte lipsticks are easy to apply and remove, and there's no need to use a lip brush during the application process, although I am partial to the precise application of lip brushes for ultimate beautiful lips.

Makeup tips for lips:

*Once you have applied your lip liner and lip color, use a wedge sponge to apply sheer powder around the border of the mouth. This "barrier" of sheer powder will prevent your lip color from bleeding during the day.

*A personal favorite of mine is to find a lip liner that is the same color that I want to wear on my lips. I "fill in" my lips with the liner first, and apply a luster lipstick or lip gloss on top for added color or modification. It works like a charm for beautiful lips, and the color lasts all day!

*Apply a thin layer of lipstick, then dust on a very small amount of sheer powder onto the lips. Apply a second coat of lipstick after that for true staying power!

The onset of winter generally means dryer skin and this is noticed most on your lips. Not only do lips have the thinnest skin on them but they have almost no sebaceous (oil) glands and absolutely no sweat glands. Add to this the fact that lips lose 3-10 times more moisture than the other parts of the face, so no wonder we have dry lips.

What do most of us instinctively do when we have dry lips? Yes, we lick them. Making the problem worse, because the saliva actually eats away that precious thin skin layer we have on our lips, therefore making the lips drier, even to the point of cracking and bleeding. Avoid getting to this state at all costs.

Step 1) Always, always keep your lips hydrated! Even at night. Get into the habit of applying lip cream or lip balm as part of your skincare routine. Personally I choose not to use a lip balm with an SPF at night as you don't need it but I prefer ones with vitamin A or E in them to nourish the lips. You will find that smooth, moist lips will hold lip gloss or lipstick the best.

Step 2) Create the right foundation! To make sure your lips always look their best without any bleeding of the colour or simply disappeared lipstick, you need a little preparation. This works well both for lipsticks and lip glosses.

A: Apply foundation all over your lips.

B: With lip liner, colour in the whole lip area, not just the outline.

C: It is always best to stick to your natural lip line initially. Once your natural shape is established you can, very carefully even out the lips or extend the outline. Be Cautious when doing this as there is nothing worse than seeing an unnatural lip line.

Step 3) Colour in the masterpiece!

A: Apply your colour starting at the centre of your lips and thinning the colour out towards the corners of your mouth.

B: So you don't end up wearing your lipstick on your teeth, place your index finger in your mouth, close your lips around it and pull it out. This is a fantastic way to remove any excess colour. Make sure you wipe your finger; otherwise you will end up with the colour on your clothes.

Step 4) Budge proof your lipstick! Personally I'm not a big fan of long last lipsticks as these generally are drier formulations and make my lips uncomfortably dry especially in winter. So to budge proof your lipstick, follow these steps.

A: After applying your colour, blot with a tissue.

B: Lightly powder your lips with a brush or a puff.

C: Reapply colour.

Following these steps will ensure you never again will experience dry, cracked, chapped lips. What's more your lips will look glamorous no matter what the occasion!

Shiseido Makeup Lip Gloss - Benefits

One of the biggest plus points that we found when testing this new product, is the finish it gives to your lips. When applied, it gave a fantastic glossy shine to our lips - some lipsticks don't come up as well and seem to go a bit dull after a while, but the Shiseido range certainly shone through here. We also liked the glittery aspect to it which further helped enhance the glossy finish to our lips. Great stuff.

A tube of this lip gloss will set you back around $6 which is not the cheapest around - but considering that it lasts a long time and gives such a great finish, it just may well be worth the spend.

Lip gloss comes in any guise, any size, any shape, any price; performs any function and plays havoc morphing on the colour-spectrum wheel like a Pantone ink, ranging from clear to near black, stopping off to soak up the deepest or palest hues of every colour range, adding gold or silver for added zing and sparkle, deepening or transforming the colour it overshadows below.

A chameleon in the make-up jungle, lip-gloss is whatever you want it to be, in whichever form, in every whazzzzup shade in the beauty kingdom. What other beauty product can be, and is, all things to all girls? What other make-up was our first love and will still be our last?

Is there anyone of us who will not have started our love affair with lip-gloss after our first experience of chapped lips? Just sticky and shiny enough for the bright lighting of photo shoots, it is as easily pocketed for re-application by the model on a go-see. A close cousin made by 8 Hour Cream's grand mere Elizabeth Arden, her Crystal Clear Lip Gloss also in a tube is smaller and less pricey. Both require licking our messy fingertips. Fore runners of the British Punk scene, The Clash have been one of very few bands who actually survived the disintegration of Punk and leapt successfully into the eras that followed. New wave, as we know, had been the watered down, commercial idea of the media to calm Punk down. What society had failed to do was disperse the crowds of adoring fans that still hung desperately onto their Punk heroes. Born from an era of futureless lives, Punk had been the ‘anarchic noise’ that the youth had wanted to hear. It was bands like The Clash, that fuelled the rebellion of the young who were faced with unemployment and bland existences. Angry, pessimistic and anti-establishment, these bands were despised by the older generation and feared by heads of State. The Clash adapted their Punk sound to fit each generation. For the youth of then, they created an anthem for all; Punks, Rockers and Pop freaks alike.

‘The Singles,’ gives us a tour through the career of The Clash. We can look back over the growth of this immature, young Punk outfit with their disorientated tracks and abusive lyrics to the end which saw them polished, tuneful and highly respected by their contemporaries. The album was released in 1991, and failed anything higher than number 68 in the album charts, a poor place to be for such a front lining band who marked out the road for bands to followed their style, technique and ability to move from genre to genre. The album includes lyrics, (excluding, ‘I Fought The Law.) and the blue/black negative prints of the band in various ‘live’ poses throughout their mind blowing career.

We take a look now at the outstanding history of a band whose humble beginnings in London, 1976 could only lead to greater things. They had dipped their Punk toes in just about every genre going, along the way but it was their energetic Punk recordings from the early days of the band, that we will remember them for. Noting that all primary fans are now middle aged men with children, a nagging wife, a boring office job and a battered Mondeo parked on their suburban drive, it is this image that gives away the length of the band’s career. It is thirty years ago next year since The Clash thumped us good an hard in the groin with their first massive Punk anthem. At a blastful two minutes long, it was enough for The Clash to make one of the greatest explosions onto the music scene ever by a British act.

‘White Riot,’ had been noticed for sure by the ‘powers that be’ in the Punk world, although their release of the song in April 1977, failed to climb any higher than number 38. It’s simple ‘noise’ chorus was about the level of intelligence to hard core punks of the time. It was perfectly Punk and easy to shout to. We head banged our way to concussion with this track and it firmly placed The Clash on the map of madness. Fast and furious, this track is followed on this album by the slightly slower and yet, also quietly tuneful ‘Remote Control.’ With it’s hand clapping theme, it appears to be an attempt from the band to impress the general public rather than their Punk princes. This short riffed whining, foot stomping theme was released as a single in May 1977, but failed to achieve any chart position. The band took note and saved the more realistic tuneful talents to a later date. Their fast growing Punk fan club was multiplying and their needs had to be met before the band could embark on anything of a mainstream nature. Now listening to this track, it features a, immature rolling Duane Eddy drum beat that was right for the retro era of rock and roll that was already taking shape, but to the Punk fans, it didn’t kick the right spot.

The next track on this featured album was the similarly titled ‘Complete Control,’ which hit that infamous spot for both the Punk scene and the Pop world alike. Still keeping in with their Punk roots, it features all the noticeable thrashing cymbal sections and distorted, lingering guitar riffs that Punk brought, yet at the same time, it was pleasant enough on the middle of the road ears to digest and accept as something produced by a band who was developing to suit all markets. Strummers wailing and tonsillitis making vocals were a unique feature. Perhaps some would argue that there had been essentially not difference between The Sex Pistols and The Clash, but what was noticeable about the latter band was their knowledge of producing a track that was appealing. This particular track was a justified hit for The Clash in October 1977 and reached number 28. Creeping up the charts and slowly making a permanent dentations in the minds of the audience, it was obvious that this band were on the move.

The similar crashings of the thunderous Punk anthem, ‘Clash City Rockers,’ takes a noticeable British Invasion edge of the Sixties. The familiar rolling drum beat with its echoes of old dancehalls on a Saturday night, will strike memories of youngsters, sweating it out in suits and thin ties on the stage in front of winkle pickers and Bouffant hairdo’s. The band, here were already showing us their keenness to adapt and working their way into other genres. They felt a need to experiment that was practically forbidden with Punk bands. Their had been lines that bands didn’t cross. Punk was a closeted way of life. A classic example of this had been the beginnings of Billy Idol who was shunned by his Generation X fans went he branched away from Punk and joined the rock scene. It’s release in March 1978, saw the position encountered as being a rather disappointing number 35.

Moving from Punk, The Clash brought us ‘(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais.’ Counted in like a live set, this track features the soon to be familiar backing vocals of ‘football hooligans,’ all woo wooing. With its reggae theme, the Punkness of the Prince himself, Mr Strummer features still heavily in his voice and never failed throughout his career. The sound comes to us as a Specials track, little tongue in cheek and racially probing in its title. Aware of the scene in society at the time, they wrote lyrics of reality and truth, ..’White youth, black youth, they won’t notice anyway, they’re all too busy fighting for a good place under the lighting.’ London, during the rage of the Punk era, was a place, I can recall with nervousness and also disillusionment. The Clash, here, were reality tellers of the time. Their tracks had been used as anthems of forces agonist their messages of racism, but Punk had been considered ‘white’ music. Released in June 1978, it only struggled to number 32.

‘Tommy Gun, and ‘English Civil War,’ also featured the opinions of the band members on certain issues raised in the late seventies. Highlighting issues of War and racism, both topics, they felt strongly about, these were songs produced probably for their own benefit. The overriding Punk anthems, by this stage in their careers were becoming merely a soundtrack to get them heard. I did think that Punk’s hind legs gave in quickly due to the issues that were being raised by such bands as The Clash. The first released in December 1978 and the latter in March 1979, they reached 19 and 25 respectively.

It was a surprise that when we are introduced to such tracks that now follow like ‘I Fought The Law,’ and ‘London Calling,’ which were fundamentally a leap from their dead end Punk into rebellious mainstream, their were far enough from Pop to still be regarded as leaders of their youth generation. Tackling now clashes with youth and the ‘law,’ that generated the riots of places like Brixton, they curved their Punk themes with more tuneful rock. Powerful in it’s simple fusion of Punk and rock. ‘I Fought The Law’ wasn’t released until March 1988 after a flop in July 1979. Second time around, it failed to make any more of an under impressive number 29. Surprisingly as it has gone down in history as one of the true Clash anthems and is still regarded as a classic today. It reached number 11 first time around, then again in June 1991, it reached a poor number 64.

The introduction to this track, many will recognise from Garbage’s’ Punk retro track, ‘Stupid Girl.’ Released in March 1980, it failed to make the chart grade, not truly amazing as it was a significant departure form the rocked, Punked up stompers that we had come to know and love as the voice of The Clash. With it’s touch of disco element, it appears more like a Squeeze B side and fails to ignite any long lost rebellion in any Clash follower. There never should have been any romanticism in a Clash track. The only positive thing about it, is that is proved, in a strong argument, that Joe Strummer, actually could sing. Move over Aztec Camera, this track would have fitted in well.

Echoing ‘Ghost Town,’ by the emetic Specials, this dirty reggae them fresh from the streets of South London, it is tuneful on a repetitive scale. Again, touching on certain social issues of the era, it was a time of looting, petty crime, drugs and black market. The lyrics, ‘..Daddy was a bank robber,’ this line, using the title of the track was released in June 1980, again a them very much of the uncertain life of a Londoner. By August of that year, it had reached an impressive number 12 in the charts.

‘The Call Up,’ was the first time we hear a featured synthesizer from a Punk band. The jingling bells rather not unlike an Abba track gives the record a strong OMD feel and doesn’t seem to fit the London Calling subjective lyrics from this band. Released in November 1980, the Clash, as we have noticed now, packed out their hits in such large quantities. Now leaving their Punk roots firmly in the ground from whence they came, this band were showing diversity and were not afraid to explore along different sounds, thus appealing, as said before, to all listeners across the record buying public. ‘Hitsville UK’ begins with a rolling, new wave pop them along the lines of The Sty6le Council. Happy clappy fans will wallow in self indulgence within in this angelic themed track. Using a multitude of female and male harmonies, it is regarded as one of those tracks that drifted between genre’s. It is too jolly, too mushy and too hopefully happy to be anything standing along side the riotous themes of true Clash tracks. Released, (how dare they!) in August 1981, it was a track that passed us by, thankfully and could never be regarded as a Clash record, we wonder what on Earth it is doing here. Jangle those tinkering bells, it’s all about wearing orange! The buying public of the time were far from being a daft bunch as it failed to reach anything higher than number 56. The following track is, only just a shadow of The Clash sound, but with its’ fine disco, funked up theme, it feels as though The Clash had drifted too far from their secure waters. The misunderstood youth of the early eighties were up to their eyeballs with baggy shirts and lip-gloss that they prayed heavily for some of the old Clash styles. Rap to this track, I will assure you, they will fit. This next track, was a sigh of relief. ‘Know Your Rights,’ was a Stray Catted track with tonnes of rockabilly stomping. We delighted in this chanting track. Strummer had found his youthful, angry voice yet again and the band had been given a Punk fuelled injection of rock. The fast flicking of the rockabilly riff fit’s the foot thumping backing track in perfect ‘Back To The Alley,’ style. It is a joy to hear, so let’s take that step back in time, don the DM’s and stomp to our hearts content. The Ska themed lyrics give a tribute to the chants of original Ska. ‘Rock The Casbah,’ will undoubtedly be remembered as The Clash’s finest single. Punctured with self satisfaction, the band work closely with their drum machined backing track. Strummer rolls and wails with this anthemed lyrics. He pours himself in the deep depths of his vocal range. He twists his voice and winds it up and down the bars making this track a timeless piece of art fusing Punk, Pop and disco rock. Released primarily in June 1982, it had been an eye opened and ears were pinned back in vast amounts across the Nation. The British Invasion had returned with triumph paving the way for such artists to experiment with punk/disco lines. On it’s second release it pushed its way to number 1 in April 1991.

The guitar riff leads the whole theme like Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You.’ An audience vocal puller, it draws the attention of the listener to its strength in definition and it’s powerful vocals by Strummer. It was the icing on the cake for this diverse band. Released, like the latter, twice. Firstly in September 1982 where it sat at number 17 and then again in March 1991, where it scored, for the only the second time in their lengthy career, that golden number 1 slot.

Strummer when on to achieve minor acting success in the late nineties before dying at his home of heart failure on the 22nd of December 2002. The epitome of his varied career and vast contribution to British music history came with the post release of ‘StreetCore’ in 2003. The legacy of The Clash reminds with us now and beyond. Their immeasurable talent and greatly diverse experimentalist ideas brought genre’s together. A feat that hadn’t been conquered before in any bands’ history. They surely leave behind an array of ‘singles’ that not just led us through the growth of the band from childhood to adult Dom but charted the path of British music history, and all from one purely amazing band.

Applying Loose Mineral Makeup Foundations
Tap a small amount of powder into the top and swirl your brush into it (for best results we recommend using a Kabuki brush). Tap the bottom of the handle with the brush head facing upward on a hard surface (e.g. Bathroom counter). This settles the powder into the brush head. Firmly spread powder on clean, dry skin to evenly blend pigments.
Use a shader brush to apply small amounts to the problem areas and blend well. For those with dry, flaky skin, loose mineral foundation can be blended with our specially formulated cream to create a cream foundation. Blend the two products together until a smooth, creamy consistency is achieved. Applying Loose Mineral Cosmetics Veils

Eye Shadow ~ Use any color from our collection as eye shadow. Simply dip an eye shadow brush into the desired color and apply to your eyelids. Choose a lighter color as a highlighter to apply under the brow.

Nail Polish ~ Because the pigment contains no dye, you do not need to apply a base coat. Simply use clear nail polish and dip the brush into the desired color and paint onto nails. For a darker color, use more powder. You can also mix the pigments into colored nail polish to change its tint.
Body Shimmer/Highlighter ~ Use a cotton ball and lightly touch it into the desired color. Dust the powder onto your shoulder, face, chest, etc., for a healthy glow. Certain colors can also be used as bronzers.

EXTRA TIPS
If your mineral makeup foundation appears pasty, here are a few possibilities:
1. The brush! Unfortunately, the right brush is an absolute necessity when applying loose mineral cosmetics foundations. The best brush for mineral makeup foundation is a Kabuki brush. Kabuki brushes have a very high density of hair- short, firm, and soft to boot. Even bronzer brushes that look similar may not have firm or dense enough hair to accomplish the task.
2. Too much product on the brush: Mineral makeup is very concentrated. Because there is little if any 'filler" in this type of powder, it is imperative that you put just a little bit of powder on your brush and use that on one cheek. Buff it in well in a circular motion before applying more. If you have a golden undertone, and the color you apply has a blue or neutral undertone, your face may appear grayish or pasty. Don't assume that mineral cosmetics don't "work" on ethnic skin. Blending loose mineral makeup foundation shades together, is as simple as shaking the jar, and blending one color with another may achieve that perfect shade that you're looking for!

This creates a smooth, silky appearance that simply applying the wax would never achieve. Do the same with your mineral makeup foundation. Colour in Cosmetics
Many people avoid artificial colours in their foods, but don't check out the colours in cosmetics and personal care products. In many countries colours in cosmetics are listed as colour index numbers. C.I. numbers are allocated by the Society of Dyers and Colourists. The scheme covers colours used in food, personal care products, cosmetics, household products and fabric dyeing. So, for example you will not normally see ‘tartrazine’ listed in your lipstick ingredients, but it may be there listed as C.I. 19140. The USA uses a different system: the FD & C colors have been categorised by the American Food & Drink Administration for use in foods, drugs and cosmetics. So in this system tartrazine is FD & C yellow 5, and amaranth is FD & C red 2.

The ‘E Number’ system is used by the European Community (EC). This is a system of giving code numbers to food additives, some of which are also used in cosmetics and personal care products. For example, tartrazine (also known as FD & C Yellow 5, CI 1914 and EI02) can cause migraines, itching, rhinitis and agitation in susceptible individuals. Many individuals avoid its use in food, but do not realise how extensively it is used in cosmetics, such as lipstick, and personal care products.

The big worries in terms of colours in cosmetics and personal care products are lipstick, coloured lip balms, lip gloss and lip pencils, because anyone who uses these regularly ‘eats’ a fair quantity over their life time, but these colours also appear in skin cream, foundation, mascara and so on too. (Remember also that these colours can also be in 'natural' cosmetics and skin care products.)

Another worry is that even the 'experts' cannot agree on an international 'safe' list of colours, so that a colour may be allowed in one country, but banned elsewhere. Here is a list of the different names and numbers that common colourings go under:
